Deland Land Use Wins-Pelham Square

Deland, in west Volusia county, is located less than 30 minutes from Orlando. More and more developers are looking areas outside Orlando to build. One builder just won a land use approval to develop Pelham Square, after Hontoon residents strongly opposed the development due to high density. The developer originally wanted 226 homes site with 4 homes per acre parcels. The county council after long discussion approved the plan, but made modification such as limitation to build 200 homes and adding a public bicycle path along the perimeter. These homes will be of 1920's architecture and will have some of the same architects that designed Baldwin Park and Celebration. The county council indicated the single family and town home development and open space would make a good future commuter rail stop.
